IUSA INTERVARSITIES 2016 – REPORT

The IUSA Intervasities 2016, organised by Trinity sailing and DIT sailing club took place in Kilrush, Co Clare from the 25th-27th of February. Kilrush provided us with a fantastic racing area for both the racers and spectators at the event.

The event kicked off on Thursday with 27  teams from 11 different universities from Ireland and the UK competing in 4 different round robin flights. UCC1, Loughborough University, CIT and UCD1 came out on top of each flight after the first day. The teams were split into Gold, Silver and Bronze for a second round robin on Friday before entering the knockout stages on Saturday.

The results and fleets each UCC team progressed to over the 3 day event:

Day 1

UCC1 finished top of their flight losing no races –  qualifies to GOLD fleet

UCC2 finished 3rd in their flight – qualifies to GOLD fleet

UCC3 – qualifies to SILVER fleet

UCC 4 – qualifies to BRONZE Fleet

Day 2

UCC1 finishes top of their flight losing only one race to Loughbourough University.

UCC2 qualifies for gold fleet quarter finals.

UCC 3 knocked out of Silver does not qualify for Silver Fleet quarter finals.

UCC 4 qualifies for Bronze Fleet quarter-finals

Day 3 – FINAL DAY

UCC2 knocked out of first quarter final against Loughborough University.

UCC1 knocked out of their quarter finals against Trinity 1.

UCC 4 wins their quarter final against Trinity 6 and progresses to the Semi-Finals.

UCC4 loses semi-finals to Queens University Belfast.
