Sailing

Welcome to UCC Sailing Club. The club competes at several events each year and all students are welcome.

About Us

UCC Sailing Club was founded in 1972 by Eddie English, Finn Lyden and Clayton Love.

At present the Club has over 60 active members from all sailing backgrounds and a large alumnus of past UCC sailors. Club members train on a regular basis in the Royal Cork Yacht Club in Crosshaven, team racing our fleet of Firefly dinghies.

UCC Sailing Club compete in a number of events annually against sailing clubs from other Irish universities. These include IUSA Northerns, IUSA Easterns, IUSA Southerns, IUSA Intervarsity’s, Student Yachting Championship, WAVE Regatta and ITRA Nationals. Consistently successful in competition, in March 2022, UCC Sailing Club won both the IUSA Intervarsity’s and the Student Yachting Championship which was a huge achievement for the club. In 2022/2023 6 members of UCCSC were selected to compete in the first ever Rider Cup (Irish vs British universities), which proved to be a hugely successful event which is now set to be an annual event on the calendar.

Each year we host our alumni event in the Royal Cork Yacht Club, inviting back previous members of the club to celebrate its long history, the memories and the friendships that have been made over the years.

The club is free to join, and boats are provided for you. However, members will need to supply their own sailing gear and buoyancy aid.

UCC Sailing is looking onwards and upwards and hoping to have an even more successful year, each year. For more information on the club, training, and competitions, follow and contact us on social media (linked below) or email us.
